About Aaron M. Sholley

Aaron Sholley

I have become a true believer in the auction process.

I grew up in Central Pennsylvania, my father was a dentist and my mother owned and operated an antique store for many years. My parents and grandparents also had many dealings with real estate over the years, some good experiences and some bad. I spent most summers with my grandparents in Harpers Ferry spending time working on the Joy Line Miniature Railroad with my grandfather. My grandfather was a salesman at heart with a passion for collecting trains and also had many rental properties. I credit him for my love of business and also my love of trains.

Upon graduating from Penn State University with a degree in accounting I entered the auto industry as a new car salesman. This was meant to be temporary while helping my grandmother settle my grandfather's estate. Apparently, I had a stronger love for cars than I realized. I left the car business for a short period to work in accounting but my love for cars drove me back into the auto industry. My wife Sonya and I were married in 1993 and I continued working for new car dealers until the fall of 2005.

Ironically, I was never much of an auction person with the exception of attending car auctions several times a week as part of my job. Attending the auctions quickly became the favorite part of my job. The selling, buying, the competition, the thrill of wheeling and dealing at lightning speed! In 2005 we were presented with an opportunity to move from Pennsylvania to Harpers Ferry. This move is when I decided to leave the car business (sort of) and become an auctioneer.

Currently I primarily work as an auto auctioneer working 4-5 auctions a week. Since becoming an auctioneer I have been privileged to sell real estate, coin collections, guns, high end antiques, toy collections, estates, equipment, tools, and of course classic cars. I have sold in 8 different states even travelling as far as California for real estate. In 2009 I entered the World Automobile Auctioneers Championship and became one of the finalists. I am also an engineer for the Strasburg Rail Road in Strasburg, PA. I collect trains and my wife and I love collecting classic cars and attending car shows. We attend Bethel Assembly Church of God in Martinsburg, WV and share our home with our two cats.

I have become a true believer in the auction process. As the saying goes, "it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it", the auction process brings out the true market value of an asset. Auctions are also one of the few ways you can sell an item where the asking price is continually going up instead of being negotiated down. There is no replacement for the emotion and competitiveness that the auction process creates, often times driving the selling price above expectations.

I personally hold myself to the highest of ethical standards in order to provide my customers with an enjoyable experience and the comfort of knowing that they are in good hands. Thank you for looking at my website and I look forward to helping you sell your treasures to the highest bidder!

God Bless,
Aaron
